Arjuna awardees seek 'recognition' from Delhi govt
NEW DELHI: A group of Arjuna awardees from the national capital on Suaday sought "recognition" and financial aid from the Delhi Government.
The group led by former national swimming champion Khajan Singh, who was conferred Arjuna Award in 1984, met Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and demanded recognition from the city government.
Singh said the chief minister assured them that she will make some kind of financial package for Arjuna awardees within two-three days.
"Almost every state has given Arjuna awardees various incentives including monthly pension. We also want recognition," Singh said.
He indicated that the city government may announce a monthly assistance of Rs 10,000 each to the Arjuna awardees.
Those from Delhi who were conferred with Arjuna awards include wrestler Sushil Kumar and cricketers Virendra Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.
