Australian Open 2011: Roger Federer, Caroline Wozniacki into quarters

ROGER FEDERER on Sunday equalled the U.S. Tennis legend Jimmy Connors Grand Slam record of 27 consecutive quarter-final appearances as he overcame Tommy Robredo in four sets at the first Grand Slam of the year, Australian Open 2011. Federer took two hour and 25 minutes to beat the unseeded Spaniard 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 at Melbourne Park.

The last time the Swiss great missed out on a Grand Slam quarter-final was at the 2004 French Open when he was knocked out in the third round.

Third seed Novak Djokovic, advanced with a hugely impressive win against Nicolas Almagro. The 2008 champion complete his victory in a straight set by 6-3, 6-4, 6-0. Djokovic will now play Tomas Berdych, who crushed Spains Fernando Verdasco 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 in his fourth-round match.

Fifth seeded Andy Murray of U.K. defeated Austrian 11th seeded Jurgen Melzer by 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 in the Men's Singles fourth round game. World no. 1 Rafael Nadal's game is schedule to be played later today against fifteen seeded Croatian Marin Cilic at Rod Laver Arena.

World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki moved into the Australian Open quarterfinals on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Anastasija Sevastova. Wozniacki finished off Sevastova in one hour and 20 minutes to advance to the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park for the first time.

Second ranked Russian Vera Zvonareva also secured her berth for the quarterfinals with a win over Iveta Benesova by 6-4, 6-1. Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova also moved into the Australian Open 2010 after defeated Flavia Pennetta in a three sets game by 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Third seeded Indian Express of Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes won against 13th seeded Marcel Granollers and Tommy Robredo of Spain in a Men's Doubles third round game of Australian Open 2011 at show court 2 by 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
