Davis Love III named Ryder Cup captain for 2012 at Medinah

Add to My Stories Davis Love has been confirmed as the United States' captain for the 2012 Ryder Cup.The 46-year-old takes over from Corey Pavin for the September 2012 match at Medinah in Chicago.Love was one of Pavin's assistants in the one-point defeat at Celtic Manor last October and won six caps as a player between 1993 and 2004.

Love was in tears within minutes of being confirmed as captain. The American was unable to hold back the tears when asked how proud his late father would be of his appointment. The 46-year-old lost his father in a plane crash in 1988 and said: 'This is a thrill I never thought I would have and I would love to share it with him.'

'My main mission is to get the players prepared for Friday morning,' he said after being confirmed today as Corey Pavin's successor three months after the Americans' one-point defeat at Celtic Manor.
'What we have been missing is getting over the nerves of being ready to play on the biggest stage.
