Australian Open 2011: Roger Federer romps into semifinals

SWISS TENNISstar and world no. two tennis Roger Federer cruised into his eighth consecutive Australian Open semifinal with a straight-sets victory at Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday morning. Roger Federer defeated his country-man Stanislas Wawrinka by 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 in 107 minutes. This victory extended the 16-time Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer's winning streak to a record 59th match win at the Australian Open.

In an other game at Rod Laver Arena in Australian Open 2011 in the women's single quarterfinal, world no.1 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark defeated world no. 7 Italian Francesca Schiavone in a three set game by 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Caroline Wozniacki secured her berth for semis in two hours and 24 minutes.

Chinese ninth seed Li Na entered her second consecutive Australian Open semi-final after comprehensively defeating Germanys Andrea Petkovic 6-2, 6-4 in just 80 minutes. The victory was Lis tenth straight win in 2011, following her title at Sydneys Medibank International earlier this month.

Earlier on day 8 in year's first Grand Slam event, world no. 1 Rafael Nadal moved into quarter final. He defeated fifteenth seeded Croatian Marin Cilic in a straight set by 6-2, 6-4, 6-3. In women's single fourth round game third seeded Kim Clijsters of Belgium won against Russian Ekaterina Makarova by 7-6(3), 6-2.
