Manav downs Divya

MUMBAI: Manav Panchal did take time to find his feet, before he outplayed Divya Sharma 3-1 to inch closer to the main draw in the CCI international Invitation Snooker tournament at the Wilson Jones billiards Hall on Friday.

Before Manav could warm up, Divya ran away with the first frame. That was all that Divya could offer as there was no stopping the Malabar Hill Club cueist from advancing with a 49-61, 58-48, 72-44, 92(58)-35 win.

North India Association`s Mahesh Jagdale stopped the good run of Himanshu Jain, a collegian from Hyderabad, but not before he was taken the distance to clinch a spot in the final qualifying round with a 92-41, 40-56, 77-26, 41-5, 78-51 victory.

Paes-Bhupathi enter Oz Open final

NEW DELHI: Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi are on course for their maiden Australian Open title together as they advanced to the finals after a hard-fought victory over the combine of Max Mirnyi ( Belarus) and Daniel Nestor ( Canada) on Thursday. Ki celebration 'prompted by Scottish abuse'

DOHA: South Korea midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng's controversial 'monkey' celebration against Japan was a response to racist abuse from Scottish football fans, a team official said on Thursday. The 21-year-old Celtic midfielder put the Koreans 1-0 up from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute of Tuesday's semifinal, before allegedly pulling a monkey face and scratching his cheek in front of a pitch-side camera.
